STATE DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Lauren Martini - University of South Carolina - Columbia

Wow, that spring really flew by!!

I hope you have all been able to catch up after our busy springs and are now able to slow it down a little for the summer.

First, let me introduce myself, my name is Lauren Martini and I will be serving as your South Carolina state director for the next year.  I am originally from St. Louis, MO (Go Cardinals) but have lived in suburbs of Chicago and Detroit, as well.  I received my Bachelors of Science in Sports Organization from Miami University of Ohio and my Masters of Science in Recreational Sports Administration from Indiana University.  I started officiating when I was 13 and surely never thought I would end up as a Intramural Sports Director, but here I am!

Second, let me thank all the people that attended our SCIRSA summer meeting in the past and were able to attend our national NIRSA conference in April in Anaheim.  Although, I have only been in SC for 4 years, I can see the growth and feel the passion from all the professionals and students and I am very proud to be a part of it.

Thirdly, let me thank our new SCIRSA state student rep, Miller Yoho from Clemson University, for serving the state this year.   Please direct your students to the student information page for more details from him.

I hope you can all attend our SCIRSA Summer Meeting on July 13th @ WFC.  You should have received an email from me the 3rd week of May with the details.  If you did not, please contact me so I can be sure you are on our email list.  Also, if you have any ideas/suggestions/agenda items you would like discussed at our meeting, please contact me with those.

I am in the process of setting up our official state association with the NIRSA national center.  This should allow us to move forward on our student scholarship fund shortly.

I will do my best to keep you informed and get you involved in all these processes.

I wish you a fantastic fall and please do not hesitate to contact me!

-Lauren
